From noon to 4pm, a science fun day hosted by the Institute of Physics, Thomas Hardye School and Dorchester Town Council. Come and take part in a range of ‘tests’ involving local scientists and learn about what it takes to be an astronaut. We will provide you with an astronaut training card and you will be invited to take part in lots of fun activities to evaluate your mental and physical abilities and show you the skills you need to survive a space mission. Plus there will be science demonstrations and interactive talks about our universe – aimed at children, but with something for people of all ages to enjoy!

You will get to meet astronomers, astrophysicists, chemists, engineers, physicists, mathematicians and rocket scientists – including one who worked on the original Apollo 11 rocket! Complete the tasks – and see if you might want to start thinking about applying to NASA and starting your space training for real! We will have refreshments on sale – but feel free to bring a picnic – and all the family!

Our guide to getting the best out of your day:

The day will have a combination of activities and speakers, so you can come and be active, or just relax and enjoy the talks – so feel free to bring your own seats or rugs. Do bring your own picnics – but also support our caterers (see above!) This event is weather contingent, so if it is looking very bad, some activities may not be able to take place – please check the Moonbury Facebook page for updates.
